Linden Valley has Grand, Grand Opening on Memorial Day 2010. A year after the first roping was held at Linden Valley Arena The Roping Company and the Perkins family finally decided the facilities were worthy of the long awaited Grand Opening. The Perkins family has continued to make improvements to the facilities which were most apparent to kids and their parents with the addition of a playground and basketball court both next to the arena. Seriously, this year a good time really was had by all. Most everybody loves the facilities in Linden Valley! Come try it on for size and see how it fits you and your posse. On Friday several good ropings for the higher numbered ropers were held and were highlighted by the #13 $10K roping that added another $1,600 to become a nearly $12K roping. Guero Martinez and Octavius Warts were rewarded the most by placing 1st in the Average and taking home a cool $5,000. Saturday was the premier Grand Opening day and had the teams to prove it gathering 650 anxious ropers to rope for two trailers and tons of cash and prizes. Steven Wagoner had come to several trailer ropings in the past and had dreams to replace his ’83 vintage straight load trailer with a better model. Steven took the direct route and won the premium trailer with 32 points. Walter Livingston took the indirect path to his trailer award by tying with Tyler Nosie for 2nd in points (20) and creating a rope-off. At the end of a nerve-wracking rope-off Walter had secured his rights to the 2nd High Point trailer. The arena lights were well tested that night and also helpful for the live band that played for the Grand Opening. Jason Gibson’s band played to dancing and toe-tapping while the bonfire cooked up some-mores and a good time was had by all. Sunday saw the award of 7 premium Double-J saddles to 7 highly competitive ropers. Monday awarded the popular #7 buckles and #8 saddles to several participants. All in all the Grand Opening weekend at Linden Valley Arena was a huge success and lends hope for many successful seasons yet to come. Kay Perkins and his family are continually improving the facilities and it certainly helps that they started with 40 acres and equipment and skills to make it happen.
