TRC Ropers Enjoy a COOL Reprieve Labor Day
Weekend at Pinetop Lakes.
Team ropers arrived at the high mountains of Pinetop
Lakes 2007 Labor Day Weekend ready to recover from the effects of the
hottest summer in recent memory and were immediately rewarded a 30 degree
drop in temperature. Just like that! TRC ropers were also rewarded
handsomely at the pay window as well as an overall enjoyable weekend in the
high pines. As always, Pinetop Lakes Equestrian Center provided the perfect
backdrop for an enjoyable weekend with food, families, friends with a whole
lot of team roping to boot. By the end of the weekend both expert and
novice team ropers vied for prizes, prestige, and lots of cash at the 2007
TRC Labor Day weekend Event…and many of them took home the goods. Everyone
agreed that it was an exciting conclusion to the The Roping Company’s 2007
Summer Roping Series at Pinetop Lakes!
Saturday kicked off the weekend with 160 teams entering
the ever popular #8 Buckle roping. George Garcia and Fred Tappan took top
honors and the buckles by besting the field with a time of 32.87/3. The #9
Saddle roping pulled 340 teams out of the pines to rope for 5 beautiful
Double-J trophy saddles to the top #3, #4, #5, and senior ropers…oh and one
more saddle thrown in for good measure for the highest point roper not
qualifying otherwise for a saddle. What a sweet deal! Greg Cluff heeled
for Kent Stratton as they knocked down 1st in the Ave which
awarded Greg the first roper out of the points Saddle and helped Kent to the
Senior Saddle along with points that Kent earned with Bill Elkins by
capturing points for 9th in the average with a time of 41.11/3.
Header Ian Laird grabbed top honors in his #3 (and under) handicap by
placing 3rd and 11th with Lonnie Sherwood and Joe
Galardo respectively. Julius Lupe was high point #5 roper and saddle
recipient simply by teaming with Eli Quay and Leander Lupe for 3rd
and 13th respectively in the Average. And finally Lambert
Watchman qualified for the #4 saddle award by roping three steers in 31.85
seconds with Hershall Gregg Jr. Congratulations to all of the TRC Labor
Day 2007 Saddle and Buckle recipients.
The action continued Sunday with the #10 Handicaped
3-Steer and the #11 3-Horse Gooseneck Slant Trailer Event. #10 Ave winners
Jerry Lilly and Terry Stratton stepped on the accelerator to compile 3 runs
in 26.62 seconds and bested the tough field. The #11 Trailer event was
headlined by Amos Clendon as he compiled points with John Salazar at 1st
in the Ave and 3rd in the Ave with Henry Benally Jr. to win the
privilege of pulling the WW 3-horse gooseneck trailer for life. Header Joe
Gallardo also had a great day of roping and found himself some points with
Julius Lupe at 5th and Deivetss Tena at 9th in the Ave
to win the privilege of riding the extra fancy Double-J saddle for life.
Congratulations to Amos and Joe for their great day of roping…and awards to
prove it.
Monday brought the close of the weekend and the Pinetop
Lakes season with the #7 buckle event and two other cash ropings. The day
started with the #7 buckle roping where Harrison Dayaye and Clint Groff
captured first and the buckles with 28.31/3. However by the time that the
short round of the #7 buckle roping was finished 3rd and 4th
were paid out on two steers. The #7 was followed up by the #9 roping where
Bill Elkins and Trevor Hatch smoked three runs in 26.81 seconds. The final
roping of the weekend and the season was the #11 where Bill Elkins and Rick
Pearce tangled up three steers in a hot 21.76 seconds. Congratulations to
all who placed in the Monday cash and buckle ropings and in all of TRC’s
2007 Summer Series ropings at Pinetop Lakes Equestrian Center.
The Roping Company would like to thank the best staff
in the west for continuing the Pinetop Lakes tradition. Thanks also to
Kenny-Mac and Dee for providing the M&J trailers. Also, kudos to Cactus
Ropes for sponsoring the dummy ropings. Most especially The Roping Company
would like to thank the continued interest of team ropers AND their
supporting families in The Roping Company’s events! We’ll leave the wraps
on for you and see you at Truck Mania Oct 13-14 in Apache Gold!
