TRC Ca$h and Truck Fever Events Outpace Obama’s Economic Stimulus Plan at Apache Gold Pavilion, June 5th and 6th, 2009.
Obama ain’t got nothin’ on Apache Gold Pavilion and TRC’s 7th annual Cash and Truck Fever Events as cash and big prizes were more free flowin’ than a campaign promise. A sour economy just couldn’t stop the big Dodge Quad Cab 3500 Dually Diesel from rollin’ through the Apache Gold Casino parking lot on its way to the Pavilion and stirrin’ up a whole lot of interest and excitement just like in the good ol’ years. So ropers showed in strong numbers for their chance at $20,000.00 in cash on Friday and THE Truck on Saturday. The high numbers showed up on Friday because it was their day to play and never mind that it was a work day. In the #14 warm-up roping Logan Westcott and Ty Romo tangled up three in a smokin’ 22.20 seconds for first in the average. The #12 warm-up was bested by Guero Martinez and Gabriel Santamaria with 23.06 /3. Then it was time for the main event #13 $20,000.00 ($24,000.000 actually with the added money) Cash roping with $10,000.00 guaranteed to one lucky high point roper. It was a good day for the Steele’s since Tony Steele faced on three Chad Steele doubles in 20.07 seconds. The Steele’s were rewarded with $5,000.00 for their first place efforts. Without any other places in the points however the Steele’s left the door open for Conway Ethelbaugh who by placing 2nd with Don Siefert and 7th with Frankie Martinez acquired 33 points necessary to edge Frankie Martinez with 31 points. Conway’s total haul just shy of $12,000.00 felt good in his hands and he was heard to exclaim that a few recessionary bills and some other needs would be well taken care of. See, NOT EVERYBODY has to wait on Obama for their economic stimulus! The lower numbers showed to rope en force for the Truck on Saturday the 6th because that is just how they roll. A palatable excitement fell over Apache Gold Casino as the short round started, 60 teams, slow to fast. More excitement than political acceptance speech for most involved that day. One of the fastest teams of the rode in the box and went tight on a quick one just like they do at home ‘cause they are the father and son team of Dave and Clay Tsosie. When they stopped the clock on the third steer they had just 20.35 seconds on three steers which gave them 1st in the Average, 2 beautiful Double-J Saddles, and $5,000.00 to take home to the practice pen. Gerardo Ramos and Shariff Sells also stopped the clock in the 20’s which awarded them Buckles and $3,000.00. The big winner however got it done the old fashioned way. Justin Kipp managed 4th place with his son Brock and added a 7th with Banuel Banuelos and a last place 25th (in points), and on two-steers even, with Martin Baca to edge Scooter Ochoa by four points for the biggest stimulus of all, THE Truck! Congratulations to Justin and all of the big winners in the 7th Annual (and only Arizona Summer Truck Event) Ca$h and Truck Fever. The Roping Company would like to thank Apache Gold Pavilion and their friendly and helpful staff for creating a wonderful team roping event destination. Also, kudos to Cactus Ropes for producing a fantastic selection of ropes…find your favorite one and you will end up at the pay window…it’s almost that simple. Most especially The Roping Company would like to thank the continued interest of team ropers AND their supporting families in The Roping Company’s events! Stay safe and we’ll leave the wraps on for you!
