Linden Valley, Great Ropings, Good Times, July 1 – July 4, 2010. Great ropings and good times were on tap for all ropers at Linden Valley Arena in Show Low Arizona over the Independence Day weekend in 2010. Patriotism abounded and a new 10’ X 15’ flag was run up the flag pole to show the love of country in the roping community. Let us never forget those that gave of themselves and those multitudes who gave all so that we might enjoy those freedoms. The Perkins family has continued to make improvements to the facilities which were most apparent to kids and their parents with the addition of a playground and basketball court both next to the arena. Seriously, this year a good time really was had by all. Most everybody loves the facilities in Linden Valley! Come try it on for size and see how it fits you and your posse. On Thursday several good ropings for the higher numbered ropers were held and were highlighted by the #13 $10K roping that continues to be a success. From an Open to a #10 roping there was plenty roping for all on Thursday. Friday was a fantastic day for all those ropers who enjoy #11 ropings and the first ever 4th of July weekend truck ever awarded in Arizona. The firsts did not stop there. It was also the first truck awarded to a woman by The Roping Company. Melanie Greymountain teamed with Bahe Henio and Steven Gaona to lock down a tough 2nd and 3rd in the average against a lot of tough ropers. Congratuations to Melanie for winning big on the biggest of American holidays. Saturday saw the makings of six fancy Double-J saddles for six fantastic ropers in the #9 saddle roping. When the dust settled there were in fact 6 stellar ropers waking away with 6 fancy saddles. Sunday, like Friday, was also a day of firsts. It was the first Trailer awarded to #8 ropers ever in the Summer series. Quality #4 and under ropers anxiously vied for the honor of towing the CM 3-Horse trailer back to their stable. In the end Miles Begay teamed with Ross Brun and Alanzo Begay to qualify for the honor and the trailer. Miles said the trailer would replace the family’s vintage trailer and would be a major upgrade. Congratulations to Miles for a fantastic day of roping. All in all the 4th weekend at Linden Valley Arena was a huge success and lends hope for many successful Independence Days yet to come in the cool White Mountains of Arizona. Kay Perkins and his family are continually improving the facilities and it certainly helps that they started with 40 acres and equipment and skills to make it happen. The Roping Company wishes to thank our sponsors and most of all the loyal following of team ropers who chose to rope with us. Until next time, we’ll leave the wraps on for you.
